TTTS Parent Stories: Taylor Rae & Tiffany Paige

My name is Dawn and I had 3 girls ages 7, 5, 2 1/2 , my husband and I was tossing the idea around of having a 4 th child , first we would say yes then no ....well little to our surprise when I found out I was pregnant. Of course we were happy .

When I was about 8 weeks pregnant I started to BLEED tremendously. I thought I was having a miscarriage, so I called my OB and went to his office where he did a sonogram. He said all looked well... stay off your feet and that he was sending me for a different type of sonogram.

My appt. was Feb 14 2001 VALENTINE'S DAY....That is when I found out I was having Twins.........Oh my God I was in a state of shock and at the same time very excited. All was going well things seemed to be fine until I went for my level 2 sonogram at 18 weeks.

The doctor who was there at the time was not very nice, he had no bed side manner at all , he said your twins are very sick and one or both of them might not make it ......well, first of all I was VERY upset and MAD that a doctor could say something in that way , he said you have a thing called TTTS and with this we found out that we were having 2 little girls, ...at this point who cared what we were having I just wanted my babies to be ok!

When I left this appointment I called my OB. He spoke to me for a long time trying to explain this TTTS. He then made me an appointment with Dr. Quientero in Tampa.

We went to him at 20 weeks. He said "It does not look that bad but you need to be monitored weekly by us". Your recipient fluid level is larger then your donor (it was around 9 and the donor was under 2).

The next week her fluid had increased up to 10 almost 11 so I was scheduled for an amino drainage and an amino patch that was done at 22 weeks.

It was scary but we made it though, her fluid by then was up to 14. Every week their dopplers were fine, their hearts were fine, bladders fine. But every other week her fluid would increase and put me at risk of preterm labor so back I went at 24 weeks for a drainage, then again at 26 weeks, then again at 28 weeks .........Then I went into preterm labor and was hospitalized and put on Magnesium Sulfate and sent home the next day on Breathine ... every 4 hours around the clock.

At 30 weeks the fluid had increased but not as much ...at 31 weeks they did my 5th amino drainage and let me tell you it was scary when Dr.Q had the needle in my stomach I had a CONTRACTION . The needle bend in half which was a horrible thing because if it would have put a whole in the sac they would have had to take the girls right away....but someone up above was watching over us.

By 32-33 weeks my recipient sac corrected itself and was down to a normal size. WHAT A MIRACLE THAT WAS.. At 34 weeks 3 days my water broke, went to the hospital and Taylor was born at 11:52 am and Tiffany was born at 11:54 am by c-section.

My girls were perfect and very healthy. They spent 4 days in the NICU for observation. They were just fine!

My girls are going to be 1 years old on August 1st 2002.

I thank god everyday for MY MIRACLE BABIES !!! I truly believe that is what they are. I just need to add that Dr. Quintero and his staff will always hold a special place in our hearts. Love to all the family's who are going through TTTS.

ALL OUR LOVE
